Book Review: Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey

Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey: The Lost Legacy of Highclere Castle by The Countess of Carnarvon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A fantastic insight into a very different world. And different even from the time in which it is set. Almina was a remarkable woman, as were the people she was surrounded by, her family and friends. It's an exceptional account, told with simplicity and a lack of adornment. It needs no adornment, and it relies on the fascination of the characters to keep you enthralled.

Highly recommended for Downtown Abbey fans, even more so for anyone with an interest in British history. It's an insight I've never come across before of a time in Britain not often talked about.
